I am 16, and have an income of roughly $ 6,200 a year. I have my own car in my name. My school counselor says I’m a out of hand child, only because my mother talks to her and I don’t. My mother mentally and verbally abuses me. It IS apparent, most of the neighborers have seen it or heard it before. She use to physically abuse me. She put $ 120 on my credit that I have to pay for since the law won’t do anything.
With all that, would a judge allow me to get emancipated? (To my grandmothers.)
In my state there is only the requirement of needing to be over 16 to get emancipated.
I am filling for my Dad. I am married, have a dependent and make $ 30,000 annually & $ 5,000 in my saving account. My husband is unemployed but receives about $ 1,200 monthly from the VA for his education. Our household size with my dad included is 4. When I use the I864P form as a reference to calculate if I’ll need a joint sponsor it puts me well above ($ 3500) the income requirement. I was thinking not to use my husband since his not currently working. Should I use him as a joint sponsor even though he’s unemployed or do you think I am qualified by myself?

Emancipation means living on your own and completely supporting yourself. You will not qualify if you are planning on staying with your grandmother. That is called a change in custody, not emancipation. It will require your mother’s approval.
If your mother is abusive, the legal remedy is Child Protective Services, not emancipation.

LikeDislikeYou are good to go. You are over 125% of the 2010 federal poverty guideline for 4 which is about 27K per year.
