Hi all, first time homebuyers here.
I’m seeing conflicting information about this – do I need to have a pre-approval letter from my lender to tour homes, or even talk to an agent? My lender wants to pre-approve me right now knowing that I won’t be ready with funds for down payment and closing costs for 3 more months.
I’m wary about getting a pre-approval before I need to. I know that I’m probably not going to be pulling the trigger for at least a few months, but I still want to be able to get a feel for the market, neighborhoods, and the homes themselves. I suppose I can stick to drive-bys and open houses if necessary, but it would be nice to tour places considering they’ll probably still be there when I’m ready and also because they give the best kind of perspective. Plus, if happened to find "the right place" early, I’m sure I could come up with the necessary funds early.
Any advice?
